AnMed, Tri-County Technical College Launch New PT Assistant Program
Tri-County Technical College (TCTC) has announced the establishment of a new Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program, a collaborative effort with AnMed and Elite Integrated Therapy Centers, that seeks to meet the growing demand for such professionals. The program, set to launch at TCTC's Easley campus in fall 2027, aims to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the field of physical therapy.
The two-year associate degree program will equip students with a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and patient care, with a strong emphasis on therapeutic exercises, modalities, and clinical rehabilitation skills. A key component of the program will be hands-on experience gained through clinical rotations, providing students with invaluable real-world exposure.
The collaboration with AnMed and Elite Integrated Therapy Centers is a crucial aspect of the program's success. These organizations have committed to fully funding the program, including covering the costs of equipment and faculty. Furthermore, they will provide internship, work placement, and clinical rotation opportunities for students.
"Rigorous, quality education and training for healthcare professionals is critical both for our not-for-profit health system and the community at large," said William Kenley, CEO of AnMed, to the Greenville Journal. "Physical therapists and assistants are needed by neighbors, friends, and family members throughout the Upstate, and that need is growing. With the help of this wonderful new program, we're going to educate and train people to make a difference and launch rewarding careers in health care in the process."
Graduates of the PTA program will be required to pass a national certification exam. Upon certification, they will be qualified to work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, and schools. TCTC also provides transfer agreements with 4 year universities, for those students wishing to further their education.
